Environmental Sensing Extension

An excess deposition of nitrogen in nature contributes to the loss of biodiversity by disrupting delicate ecological balances. Environmental Sensing Extension is a collaborative project where OnePlanet Research Center, TNO and Wageningen University & Research teamed up to contribute to the understanding of nitrogen compound emission and dispersion in an agricultural setting, specifically ammonia. The goal of the project is to evaluate and improve the calibration of ammonia sensors and assess the feasibility to map the distribution of ammonia gas around an agricultural source. The project took place between September 2022December 2023 and was funded by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV). The final report can be accessed by link the provided below (in Dutch).
